ABOUT THE EDITOR

"Arthur E. Cote, P.E., graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.S.
degree in Fire Protection Engineering. Presently Assistant Vice President and
Chief Engineer of the National Fire Protection Association, Mr. Cote administers
NFPA's 226 Committees, which develop the more than 276 fire safety codes and
standards that make up the National Fire Codes. In addition, he is Secretary to the
13-member NFPA Standards Council and Secretary to NFPA's Advisory
Committee on the Toxicity of the Products of Combustion. He is author and editor
of numerous professional publications including Principles of Fire Protection and
Industrial Fire Hazards Handbook.

"Mr. Cote is a registered professional engineer in fire protection in the State of
Pennsylvania and a member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, having
been Past President of the New England Chapter. He is a Corporate Member of
Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., and belongs to IL's Standards Review Council. His
other active memberships include the Executive Standards Council - American
National Standards Institute, National Institute of Building Sciences, and Charter
Member of the World Organization of Building Officials."
