BUSINESS CONTINUITY PLANNING: AN IT PERSPECTIVE
VIDEO (VHS or CD)
by WatchIT

“Jim Grogan, vice president of alliances for SunGard Recovery Services, and Donna Scott,
vice president and research director at Gartner, describe the elements of a business
continuity plan from an IT perspective, and discuss the steps required to implement such a
plan. In addition, a short case study drawn from the September 11th terrorist attacks drives
home with frightening clarity the need for businesses to ensure the safety of their corporate
data and their ability to continue IT operations should a disaster strike. Because business
continuity planning (BCP) touches nearly every part of an IT organization, BCP is one of its
most process-intensive activities. This program identifies the core processes of effective
BCP for IT organizations. Next, the program discusses how to develop a business impact
analysis, which is the process of determining critical business systems and the operational
implications resulting from their destruction or loss. Then, the program describes a
step-by-step game plan for business continuity planning. By watching this program, you will
learn how to create a plan for protecting and recovering critical IT systems and data in the
event of a disaster.

“Viewers of the CD and online versions receive more than 50 Web links, featuring articles
such as, 'It's Ground Zero for Catastrophe Teams Handling Claims From Terrorist Attacks'
and 'How Insurance Catastrophe Teams are Mobilized' from Insure.com; as well as
'Prepping for Disaster' and 'Technology After the Fall' from Business 2.0. In addition, white
papers include: 'Business Continuity in the E-Commerce Environment'; 'Disaster Recovery
Planning Encourages Better Management Decisions' and 'TowerGroup's Estimate on the
Impact of the World Trade Center Disaster to the Securities Industry's Technology
Infrastructure.'”
