The Business Impact Analysis Template is designed to be completed before a Business
Continuity Plan is developed. Business Impact Analysis Template addresses the
information collection process and then guides the user (with Author's Notes and Sample
BIA Reports) to create a BIA. The BIA provides the information and guidance essential for
the development of the Business Continuity Plan.

WHO SHOULD USE THE PLAN?

The DMI.BIA that is designed for a small or medium sized organization and for companies
that have developed good IT plan but need to develop a good business-wide plan with
planning for their business units (operational groups and support departments).

WHY IS THE PLAN EASY TO USE?

- The documentation is very comprehensive allowing the user to perform much of
the update by simply ‘editing-out’ text.
- The DMI.BIA is completely compatible with the Disaster Management, Inc.
Business Continuity Plan template (DMI.BCP). After the DMI.BIA update is completed a
considerable amount of the DMI.BCP editing update process will merely be an insertion from
the DMI.BIA.
- The DMI.BIA is completely compatible with the Disaster Management, Inc. Crisis
Management Protocols for Business (DMI.CMP). Additional incident response planning by
specific disaster events can be easily and inexpensively incorporated into the planning
process.
- The DMI.BIA utilizes a ‘fill in the blanks’ format that can be easily updated.
- Special files are included to simplify the information gathering process.
- The DMI.BIA utilizes a Microsoft Word format that requires no special training to
complete.
- Numerous ‘Author’s Notes’ have been inserted to assist the user.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Douglas M. Henderson, FSA, CBCP, President of Disaster Management, Inc., has 25 years
of experience in the management and human resources fields with major consulting firms. In
August of 1992, Doug was the key associate of the Emergency Management Team for a
consulting firm located in South Miami-Dade County. Inspired by the real life business
experience with Hurricane Andrew and the lack of preparation within the business and
academic community, Doug founded Disaster Management, Inc.

Doug is a speaker for the AICPA’s Emergency Business Planning Course and is the
speaker for Kemper Insurance Company’s Emergency Management and Disaster Recovery
Course. Doug has also made presentations at the National Hurricane Conference, the
Florida Governor's Conference, and to numerous other organizations.

Doug has a B. S. Degree from the University of Arizona and is a Fellow, Society of
Actuaries. Doug is a Certified Business Continuity Professional, and a member of FEPA
(Florida Emergency Preparedness Association). Doug is the editor of DisasterALERT!, the
author of the Is Your Business Ready for the Next Disaster?, the Emergency Management
Plan for Colleges and Universities, the Emergency Management Plan for Public and Private
Schools and is the coauthor of the Business Continuity Plan for Academic Institutions.
